Root Canal Re-treatment

The overwhelming reason why your original root canal treatment may need to be retreated is because of persistent bacteria within the tooth. The following are potential causes for persistent bacteria inside the tooth:

  • - The permanent restoration was not placed in a timely fashion, which re-contaminated the tooth due to leakage from saliva.
  • - The natural tooth structure became decayed and allowed communication of bacteria with the root canal system.
  • - Previously undetected canal space was not originally treated.
  • - Previously treated canal space was not cleaned sufficiently.
